An Iranian man, Azim Aghajani and his Nigerian accomplice, Ali Abbas Jega, were today Monday May 13th sentenced to five years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for shipping illegal arms into Nigeria. The two were arrested in 2010 after Lagos port authorities discovered 13 containers of weapons which they had declared as construction materials.
The two men, who have been in court since 2011, were found guilty on four criminal counts but they will only serve less than three years of their 5 year sentence as their sentence will be counted from February 2011 when their trial began. The recovered arms will be given to the Federal government.
