Explosion Rocks Buhari’s Hometown, Daura

Explosion and sporadic gunshots rocked the quiet town of Daura, Katsina state, home town of opposition leader, Muhammadu Buhari Thursday night.

The attack started about 10 p.m. and was still ongoing one hour later. Witnesses say the attackers brought down a police station and robbed banks and homes.
It is unclear if the attackers are members of the extremist Boko Haram sect that has been terrorizing northern Nigeria since 2009.

The attack comes barely 48 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in three northern states — Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

Katsina, also home to late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, under whose watch the Boko Haram sect transformed to a terror organization, has managed to remain insulated from the security crises in northern Nigeria.
The police in Katsina were unreadable for comments Thursday night
