Niger State Governor Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has denied being behind the printing of presidential campaign posters allegedly seized by men of the State Security Service (SSS) in Kaduna State which depicts him seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2015 general elections.
The A3 size posters which were to be pasted in strategic locations in the Federal Capital Territory and major towns in Niger State, was sponsored by a group known as “Concerned Citizens for Change & Transparency” with no definite address.
A copy of the poster made available to journalists shows a picture of the governor, the logo of PDP with the caption, “Vote for Change Chief Servant Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu (Talban Minna) for Presidency 2015 Insha-Allah”.
The governor while reacting to the development yesterday during a one-day North Central Geopolitical Zone security awareness workshop at the Justice Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre in Minna, said he had not given anyone or group the go-ahead to print posters for 2015 presidential election.
Stressing that as a loyal party man, he was abiding by the standing rules of the PDP, which banned political campaigns till 2014.
He however told security agencies that “If you see any poster presenting me as running for the presidency between now and June 2014, please don’t hesitate to remove it. People pick anyone and put posters about them just to cause tension in the country.”
Aliyu accused those behind the printing of the posters of trying to overheat the polity and cause disaffection between PDP members and the Presidency.
