The Nigerian Army yesterday imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Adamawa State following the presidential declaration of a state of emergency.In a statement signed by the army public relations officer in Yola Lt. Jaaru Mohammed Nuhu, the army authorities said the decision followed the imposition of emergency rule in the state and neighbouring Borno and Yobe.
The full statement reads: “Sequel to the Presidential Declaration of a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, a 6pm to 6am curfew has been imposed on Adamawa State with effect from 16 May 2013. All law abiding citizens are advised to abide by the curfew”.
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako (retd) has called on citizens of the state to remain calm and not engage in acts capable of portraying them as being against the emergency rule.
Nyako pledged the continued maximum support to the Defence and security agencies operating in the state just as he also urged people of the state to embark on special prayers to protect them from the adverse consequences of the emergency.
“Our children and young people should do that fervently as they stand to be greatest victims if things go wrong during the period of the emergency.What has been happening to their counterparts in our neighbouring states is enough lesson to them and to all of us”, he stressed.
Nyako further appealed to all to cut down on outdoor activities until the extent of the emergency rule is determined and prayed God to defend them against the evil few who want to have their children killed and maimed and the state devastated.
