President Goodluck Jonathan Describes Nollywood As Nigeria's Greatest Ambassador!
Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)– President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday described Nollywood as the greatest ambassador of Nigeria, saying it is positively marketing the country to the world.
He spoke when he had audience with some members of Nollywood known as G-20 led by Kanayo O. Kanayo, who came to condole him over the death of his brother, Meni Innocent Jonathan, who passed on last week on the President’s birthday.
The President noted that already, Nollywood has been able to bring hope and good reputation to the country.
He commended them for their achievements despite facing challenges like piracy in the industry, regretting that government was yet to keep to its promise to the practitioner, he assured however that government will act soon especially as it was a large employer of labour.
Speaking earlier, Kanayo said, “As practitioners in a veritable compartment of the creative industry, known as Nollywood, we are at one with your Excellency, family and all people of goodwill, within and beyond the shores of this land, in this time of grief.
“This visit is to reassure you of our commitment towards your administration, whether in Otuoke or Abuja, in good times and challenging times, we stand with you because we know you are outstanding.”We were there with you on the campaign trail. We are committed to be with you on the governance train”.
Kanayo also prayed for God to grant the President and his family the strength and fortitude to bear the pain of Meni’s death.
Expressing gladness that Nigeria was on the right path to development under the watch of Jonathan, the actors pledged to contribute their quota by sustaining the “enviable image” the country enjoys courtesy of Nollywood.
Other members of th delegation were Onyeka Onwenu, Stephanie Okereke-Idahosa, Teco Benson, Bukky Wright, Rita Dominic, Wale Adenuga, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, Jide Kosoko, Bob Manuel, Sanji Danja, Emem Isong among others.
